Who else woke up with a hangover?

After a fun filled evening together with members of the Russell Square branch of BRX, now known as the One Alfred Place group, there were noticeably fewer members at the meeting this morning.

That was probably due to the fact that Kirsty Joly of Perfectly Tempered and The Wine Chap’s Tom Harrow treated all of us to an intimate evening of wine & chocolate tasting.

If you weren’t there and think that this is indeed a strange combination how can it possibly work, let me sum it up in a couple of words. Well, I would if I could remember what happened. I think the trick is to only have a sip of the wine, not to down the glass when it’s handed to you.

On a serious note though, it was a great event and I learnt a little about chocolate and a little about wine. I look forward to the next one. As a corporate entertainment activity, if you could recommend these brave young souls to any companies who would be looking to treat their staff for a bonding session, or just because they deserve it, this would be a perfect way to endorse Kirsty & Tom.

So with 4 subs and a few people nurturing what I can only guess was a hangover, the meeting got underway with our very own mortgage broker, Nigel Hakkak of Redbrick Financial Solutions. He is one of the few honest people still left in his trade who would happily go through your criteria and then let you know if he thinks it is best for you to stay with your current lender.

Caroline Hampstead, our Copywriter, is looking for people who are company owners and want to expand their awareness by sending out newsletters.

Hiten Thaker from Revolution Creative made a rare late appearance but reminded us of the side of the business we all seem to forget about in this era of websites, which is a printed brochure.

Justin Beavis from Unvisited World would like intros into senior level companies with the view of winning the pouring (not pawing) rights.

Richard Holdsworth of Splatt Print has been and probably still is, working on a tender for ITV.

Mike Nightingale of Green Park Insurance was just about to put his feet up last night when a client called and needed urgent cover. Mike pulled out his laptop and within half an hour the client was covered. Do you know any other broker who provides that level of service? Didn’t think so.

George Metcalfe our truly fascinating Life Coach, is looking to meet troubled clergymen of all faiths. So do you know a vicar who was not made Bishop by the C.o.E?

Roy Duncan from RG Duncan Accountancy was subbed for this morning and is looking for private equity companies and venture capitalists that need to find recruits in their accounts department.

Des Sutton from Man Bites Dog offers IT support and solutions to make things work. He wants to know if your computer is hot and sweaty, if its cooped up under a desk, is it hot? It probably needs air. With their Vital Virtual Desktop, they can offer constant fresh air for your computers. Today he is looking for start up companies and companies wishing to grow and they need proper infrastructure for their IT.

Mab from Tancroft Communication is looking to help people save money when going abroad, be it for business or pleasure. Do you know any companies who are in the import export business who need good prices on international roaming? Give them Mab’s number.

George Emsden of IN2 Consulting, the group’s Money Doctor – had a sub in for him today. Doctors ask awkward, probing questions that also get people thinking about their financial situations, their pensions and their future. This week George particularly wants to speak with couples where one has pension protection and the other doesn’t. This is especially relevant with people experiencing cancer.

Paul Marmor attended on behalf of Sherrards Solicitors.

Zoe Antin of Opus Telecom, who was also subbed for this morning, is looking for referrals to companies that are moving office or recruiting more employees and need to sort out their telecoms. As well as being a Siemens provider, she is also very well informed on the products from NEC.

There was another sub this morning, and this time it was for Christian Ingerslev from Danesoft who creates websites and online surveys.

Alexis Garnaut-Miller from The Happiness Centre is marking 15 years trading at the Centre in West London. She is looking for companies who wish to join together for some marketing within the West London area. With a database of over 5000 people, this is a great offer.

Our newest member of the soon to be married community, stepped in this morning for HSBC. I am talking about Phil Nuttall. And I should know as Joseph Sterling made his engagement ring. They are looking for international clients who are looking for worldwide banking. Sadly Phil is moving on in the department. I just want to take this opportunity to wish him good luck in his married life on behalf of the group.

The very beautiful and slim line Louise Hassett of Delfont-Makintosh Theatres – Corporate Hospitality – talked about the launch of The Shawshank Redemption being a unique production highly recommended to treat yourself, guests or teams to. If you know anyone who has a special occasion coming up or wants to provide some refreshing memorable corporate hospitality, Louise is the one to talk to about theatre tickets in the West End.

Finally we come to the author this week that is I. Lewis Malka of Joseph Sterling. The only jeweller worth knowing! I am looking for ladies. I want them to host a gold party for all to attend. I want them to invite their friends and relatives. I want all the people to bring their old and unwanted jewellery with them. I will be there to check everything over and test all the gold. I will then weigh it and make them an offer. If they accept, I give them a cheque. It’s as simple as that. The best bit….the hostess earns 10% of all I take on the night. Fancy being my hostess?

We had a very enlightening 10 minute presentation by George Metcalfe who explained a little more about the process he goes through before you become a client of his.

Don’t forget that this coming Friday, the 10th, we will be having a master class lesson from Mike Dodd on how to perfect our 60 second pitch. So put some extra money in the parking meter in the morning.

In a nutshell, a great meeting with lots of business being passed. Well worth getting up early for.

On a serious note, please ensure that when you can’t make the meeting you have someone standing in for you. If you are stuck for a sub, there are a number of people in the group you can ask for help. They will be only too happy to.

Until next time.
